Why late-payment disputes should be precise
An active credit card, installment loan, mortgage, or other account can be valuable credit history even when one or more months are reported late. A dispute that attacks the entire account when the real issue is a specific payment period may not match the consumer’s goal. Precision matters.
What we review
We compare the payment-history grid, status history, account dates, balance information, remarks, and the way each bureau shows the late payment. If the consumer has statements, payment confirmations, correspondence, or other evidence, those documents may help determine whether the late notation is accurate.
Different bureaus can tell different stories
A late month may appear on one bureau and not another, or the severity can differ. Those differences do not automatically prove an error, but they can help identify what needs closer review. A factual dispute should be based on the report and available evidence rather than assumptions.
Late payments and mortgage readiness
Recent late payments can be especially important when a consumer is preparing for mortgage financing. That does not mean a particular score outcome can be promised. It means the payment history should be understood early enough to build a realistic path toward the financing goal.
