What a charge-off review includes
A charge-off review can include the reported balance, past-due amount, account status, date opened, date of first delinquency when available, last activity, payment history, remarks, account number formatting, and whether the account is shown consistently across bureaus. The existence of a charge-off does not automatically prove every reported field is correct.
Why bureau differences matter
Credit bureaus receive and display data differently. When one bureau reports a materially different balance, status, date, payment history, or remark from another, the difference may deserve investigation. The same is true when the furnisher’s response does not address the specific information that was challenged.
Paid and unpaid charge-offs
A paid charge-off and an unpaid charge-off can still carry complex reporting. Payment does not automatically erase the history, and a negative account should not be disputed merely because it is unfavorable. The review should remain focused on whether the reported information is accurate, complete, timely, and verifiable.
Building the dispute around the facts
Credit Marshall uses the credit report and available evidence to identify the factual issues that deserve attention. That keeps the process centered on the consumer’s own file instead of using the same dispute paragraph for every charge-off.
